Preparing PC Files
Preparing Documents for Digital Output at Westerfield-Bonte
Making sure your files output
correctly the first time is not hard, but it does take a little
extra effort. For best results, you should first install the
print drivers for our digital presses on your system. (A print
driver is simply a file that gives the computer information
about the printer or printing press being used.)
If you don't have a copy of
our print drivers, you can download them here (Color
or Black
and White/Grayscale). If you choose not to download them,
you can also have some success using a general PostScript
driver instead.
In this section, we'll explain
briefly how to install and use print drivers on Windows
95/98. These instructions won't (and can't) cover every
possible situation. If you have problems, contact Ed Eastridge
via email at eeastridge@westerfieldbonte.com
or by calling 502-585-4616.
Windows 95/98
Print drivers
go in the Windows folder (C:\Windows). Once you've installed
a driver, you should restart your system. (This is always
a good idea when installing any sort of software.)
When you're ready to print your
document, choose Print from the File menu. You should see
an option in the Print dialog box where you can select a printer.
Choose DocuTech 6135 for black-and-white output or EDOX/Canon
CLC-1000 for color output. If you haven't installed these
drivers, use General or Color General. You can also try HP
LaserJet 4MV for black-and-white output if that driver is
present.
Next, choose the Print To File
or Save As PostScript option and click Print or Save. (The
specific options will vary depending on what program you're
using.) You'll be asked to name the document and choose a
location for it.
After you've created your output
file, you'll need to ensure that the filename has a .ps extension.
To do so, open Windows Explorer and navigate to the file you
created. If the extension is not .ps, select the file and
choose Rename from the File menu. Then, change the extension
to .ps. The file is now ready for output.
Transferring Files to Westerfield-Bonte
Once you've created your file,
you can send it to Westerfield-Bonte. You have several options
here: You can attach it to an email document, send it via
FTP to ftp.westefieldbonte.com, or place it on removable media
and deliver it to us (or have us pick it up). We accept the
following removable media on both Windows and MacOS platforms:
floppy disks, 100MB Zip disks, and 1GB Jaz cartridges. We're
sorry, but we don't support Syquest cartridges.
