Preparing Documents for Digital Output at Westerfield-Bonte
Making sure your files output correctly the first time is not
hard, but it does take a little extra effort. For best results,
you should first install the print drivers for our digital
presses on your system. (A print driver is simply a file that
gives the computer information about the printer or printing
press being used.)
If you don't have a copy of our print drivers,
you can download them here (Color
or Black
and White/Grayscale). If you choose not to download them,
you can also have some success using a general PostScript
driver instead.
In this section, we'll explain briefly how
to install and use print drivers on MacOS. These instructions
won't (and can't) cover every possible situation. If you have
problems, contact Ed Eastridge via email at eeastridge@westerfieldbonte.com
or by calling 502-585-4616.
MacOS
On the Mac, print drivers go in the Printer Descriptions folder
within the Extensions folder in the System Folder on your
hard drive. In addition to the DocuTech 6135 and EDOX/Canon
CLC-1000 drivers, you'll need to have LaserWriter 8 or some
other PostScript driver (such as Adobe PS or PSPrinter) active
and selected before you can print.
Open the Chooser and select the appropriate
driver: DocuTech 6135 for black-and-white output or EDOX/Canon
CLC-1000 for color output. Then, return to your application
and choose Print from the File menu. Select the Print To File
or Save As PostScript option and click Print or Save. You'll
be asked to name the document and choose a location for it.
Give your document a name like filename.psthe .ps extension
is criticaland save it to your hard disk. The file is
now ready for output.
